All states and political entities, regardless of their position in the global power hierarchy, seek to enhance their geopolitical standing by effectively leveraging their power components, advancing national interests, creating dependencies through domestic capacities, and capitalizing on strategic opportunities. The Islamic Republic of Iran, by utilizing its domestic capabilities, can strengthen its geopolitical position to achieve national objectives, particularly in Southeast Asia. Indonesia, with its unique geopolitical characteristics, presents a strategic opportunity in this regard. The country’s significant defense advancements, coupled with Indonesia’s defense needs and programs, provide a favorable environment for the realization of this goal. This research addresses the question: Which defense strategies are effective in enhancing Iran’s geopolitical position in Indonesia? The study employed applied-developmental, descriptive-analytical, and qualitative research methods. Data were collected through library research and interviews and analyzed using documentary analysis and elite consultations. The study identified key defense-security factors influencing Iran’s geopolitical strategies in Indonesia. These factors were subsequently categorized into strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats using the SWOT framework, and specific sectoral strategies along with a main overarching strategy were formulated during expert consultations. The findings indicate that defense diplomacy toward Indonesia, leveraging Iran’s domestic defense capabilities, constitutes a primary strategy for enhancing the country’s geopolitical position in the region.
